Supreme Commander's State of the Guild Post-OCT
As required by rule 6-SC-4, this is the Office of the Supreme Commander’s post on the state of the guild. This post covers the period from July 2020 to the present. Areas covered in this post include the status of progression of the Supreme Commander’s Leadership Plan, concerns, and the future outlook of Pegasus Command as a whole.
The ultimate goal of the Supreme Commander’s Leadership Plan is to ensure that everything we do promotes value, fosters growth within our community, and strengthens each and every game within Pegasus Command for the long term. In order to achieve this goal, game plans have been designed for the Game Commanders of each game, tailored to the specific needs of their games that promote growth and more solidified gaming communities. Having reached the half-way point of my term as Supreme Commander, the following is my assessment of the progress of those games.
ESO: The game has been returned to normal order and each facet of the game is now under the direct command of the ESO command staff. The game continues to grow as recruiting efforts continue to be a priority. Activity in game and in Discord suggests that engagement is good. ESO has a solid foundation from which it can continue to grow and as such, by following the career progression steps as outlined in the SC’s Leadership Plan for this term, the members of this guild have a clear and concise path to reaching their personal goals, both in game and within Pegasus Command as a whole. Opportunities for leadership roles are available to every member of the ESO gaming guild should this be an avenue they wish to take.
At this point in time, the only concern I have regarding ESO resides within the command staff. Due to the size of the membership of this game, a strong and reliable chain of command must be in place to ensure that the game continues to grow and move in a forward direction. Staff members must be put in place who are reliable and dedicated to the overall health and well being of the game and it’s membership. Although the game is not struggling at this point in time, without a solid command staff that goes beyond the game commander, issues will arise as the load of responsibility will inevitably become too much for one person to bear. Establishing a solid chain of command will alleviate this stress and the game will continue on it’s upward path. The future of ESO looks bright and I see continued growth and strength among the members of this community as it moves through the stages of progression as set forth in the game commander’s plan.
STO: This game is currently under the direct command of the Office of the President, as some rebuilding and restructuring was necessary. Recruitment efforts are strong and membership is steadily growing. Activity in the game and in Discord suggests that the game is moving forward and gaining momentum. Op attendances are good. With the continued growth of membership will come stability. Once the game has reached an acceptable level of stability, a command staff will be put in place and the game will be placed under the direct command of the newly instated game commander. Again, by having a solid chain of command and following the path carved out in the game commander’s plan as well as the SC’s Leadership Plan, there is no direction the game can go other than forward. The future of STO is bright, as growth in membership and strength within the community increases.
Star Conflict: Star Conflict has seen continual growth during recent months as recruiting efforts have been a priority. The game commander has done a fantastic job in motivating members to play and be active in Discord. The game plan created for this game is one that is most definitely achievable and as such, the community continues to grow in strength and in membership. An area of concern lies in the filtering process regarding recruiting. Because this game has international appeal, recruitment of members from other parts of the world are inevitable. This being said, it is very important to understand that filtering non-English speaking players is a must. Star Conflict is a game that requires voice/text communications on the fly, so a member of the corporation who doesn’t speak a lick of English is going to hamper operations to a degree that will reduce the quality of game play for our members. Because of this, GO-3-20 has been established to ensure that this type of disruption doesn’t occur again. The future of Star Conflict is a bright one with continued efforts on filtered recruiting and the promotion of Ops and special events.
League of Legends: This game is still under the direct command of the Office of the Supreme Commander as the rebuilding of the game and it’s community continues. Recruiting efforts have been slow and due to lack of activity, a purge was necessary which cut the membership roster in half. The remaining members have an Op participation level of about 48% which is not terrible, but could be a great deal higher. Continued filtered recruiting efforts and promotion of activity within the community both in client and in discord could see an increase in membership. Movement through the career progression outlined in the game plan is slow at best as participation is lacking, making the ability to grow the guild and build a solid command staff very difficult. This game will continue to be monitored closely as we move through the second half of this term. The future of the League of Legends guild is based solely on it’s membership and their willingness to assist in the growth of the guild and community as a whole. At this time, the future of the LoL guild is on shaky ground but not to the point of no return.
SWTOR; Star Wars has been an area of great concern for a very long time now. The player base has diminished with little to no recruiting done over the past year. Activity in game and in Discord is the lowest of all the Pegasus Command official games. Although efforts to re-engage members have been made and recent recruiting efforts have gone up a bit, the future of SWTOR is looking very bleak. Multiple shifts in command staff have not helped this situation either. In order for a game to be considered stable and a viable staple game in Pegasus Command, there are several things that need to be in place. A solid membership base, a solid and reliable command staff, and a roster of active members who play the game regularly and are in Discord. This game suffers from the lack of all of the above. At this time, the game’s future as an official part of Pegasus Command relies on the decision of the Quorum.
Server Guild: We have two games in this guild, 7 Days to Die and Conan Exiles. Both of these games see varying activity. Recruiting efforts are proving to be minimal, but activity among our membership is enough to keep the games going. A lack of command staff for 7 Days is an area of concern as recruiting and promoting are suffering. With proper staff in place, this game can continue to grow and be a more stable environment for our members to be a part of. This office will continue to monitor these games.
Overview: As a whole, Pegasus Command is vibrant and strong. With continued efforts in following the SC’s Leadership Plan, individual game plans, and constant open communication across all games, we will reach the goals set forth in the SC’s plan. We are on task and progression as a whole is moving along as planned.
I have one request that I would like to see all game commanders abide by, which is to design a job description document for your command staff. I would like to have them posted on the website forums under your individual games. Leadership roles should be defined in writing as to what is expected of them, specifying their duties and responsibilities. Game Commanders, XO’s, Recruiters, and anyone with a specific command staff title. This will alleviate any confusion and be a documented point of reference for anyone in the chain of command and otherwise interested parties.
