Thunder's Supreme Commander Plan July 2020-Jan 2021
Supreme Commander Plan
July, 2020-January, 2021
Thunder Catalyst
The guiding purpose of this plan is to ensure that everything we do promotes value, fosters growth within our community, and strengthens each and every guild within Pegasus Command for the long term. We will reach our destination through building a community based on fairness and shared community values. Though Pegasus Command as a whole is healthy, through the concerted efforts of both our staff and our community, Pegasus Command will become a self-perpetuating system as a direct result of emergent property.
We will realize these goals by incorporating the following:
By utilizing 6-SC-6 (Supreme Commander Plan), 6-SC-7 through 6-SC-17 (Supreme Commander Game Plans), 6-SC-26 (Supreme Commander Rules), and incorporating a 3-step career progression strategy, all games within Pegasus Command will have structures in place which will give all Game Commanders a clear path to reaching their goals while at the same time, promote solid gaming communities.
Game Commanders should know what types of Ops they are running, how much variety their Ops have, and have a clear understanding of how to engage their members. Game Commanders should also be open to trying different types of Ops every few weeks and have Ops dedicated for both low and high level players. Ops should be fun. Game Commanders need to balance what they want to do with what they need to do and be willing to work and communicate openly and honestly with the Supreme Commander to keep their games moving forward.
Ideal guilds promote group play and are committed to one of our founding principles, “We leave no one behind”. Each guild will have Pegasus Command values ingrained in their structures and in their members.
The following game plan is what I will be utilizing for League of Legends. I would like each Game Commander to develop a plan that is similar, but tailored to your individual games. This plan encompasses purpose, direction, and motivation for our Game Commanders.
Career Progression
Each game will establish an in-game chain of command career path. The officers of each game will understand that their position is one of service to both their game’s community and that of Pegasus Command as a whole.
Each game in Pegasus Command will have structures in place to initiate a member career path from beginning game, through mid-game, and finally end-game. Structures, special events, Ops, and other activities will be geared toward moving members through each phase of career progression. Each game will incorporate a “leave no one behind” stance and ensure that events are in place for all types of players, no matter their experience level in the game. Remember: continuous recruiting with filters in place is a must for all games to keep continuous flow.
Level 1- Early Game/Basic Training: involves teaching/learning the basics of the game, the game’s platform, queuing, as well as familiarizing members with Pegasus Command rules and website points of interest, Chain of Command, and Discord functions. Each game will have events and/or Ops designed to stimulate team play, cooperation, and support this level of the learning phase. Upon completion of Level 1 a medal appropriate for each individual game will be awarded and the members will then be promoted to Level 2. Recognition is key to keeping members motivated, dedicated, and eager to keep moving forward. Game Commanders must use filtering techniques and continue recruiting for their games on a regular basis to keep an inflow of new members at an even pace. [League of Legends: League 101 OP- Games will be Coop vs. AI (introductory level). I will be recruiting players new to the game (under level 30), who haven’t had time to form bad habits (filter). Mixing our more experienced players with the new players during the Ops will give our experienced players a chance to teach, and at the same time be promoting team play while instilling the fact that we are all students of the game. Ops will last one hour, with 2 matches played. Upon completion of League 101, members will be well versed in the basics of League of Legends. They will have a good understanding of the following:
1. Turrets, inhibitors, and the Nexus.
2. Types of minion, what they do, and the importance of last hitting.
3. Main objectives: Dragons, Rift Herald, Baron Nashor, River Scuttle.
4. Jungle camps
5. Lanes
6. Roles
7. Importance of experience and gold income.
8. The shop, how and what to buy.
9. Champion abilities and summoner spells.
10. Warding: how, when, and where to place wards, importance of Control Wards, Blue Trinkets, and Sweeping Lens.]
Goals of early game are to prepare for mid-game.
Level 2- Mid Game: at this phase, tactical play is introduced. PVP competitive and casual play are initiated. There will be no ranked play at this stage (LoL). Ops are mid-ranged with a focus on members playing with team mates from the guild. This will give higher level members of the guild a chance to relax and help train new players and will aid them in moving toward end-game. Op themes will be focused on tactical play in each game. [League of Legends-League 201-themes of Ops based on tactics: warding, champion selection, counter picking, champion builds, champion pools, macro and micro play, and objective focus. Upon completion, members will be ready for promotion to League 301.] The purpose of this is to teach new members that anyone can play as long as they play per the purpose of the Op. Ops should last no more than one hour, after which all participants will gather together to discuss what tactics were used. During this time, higher level players will have an opportunity to talk about what they observed during the games which will initiate discussion, questions, and advice. Our goal throughout every part of this plan is to instill the importance of community and our members’ willingness to help other members. Upon completion of mid-game, members will have a solid understanding of their game, the tactics used in each match, and be ready to enter into late-game. Recognition will be given and medals will again be awarded. Goals from mid-game are to prepare for end-game.
Level 3- Late-game: this is the final stage of career progression. Throughout Early/Mid game, members have not only been learning about the games they play, but have also been training to be leaders and solid community members. By the time members have completed late-game they will be considered high level players who have a solid understanding of the game they play, are committed to community involvement, and are ready to take on leadership roles. Game Commanders may wish to assign members they feel are ready, to lead particular Ops. Members who have reached late-game will be required to attend early and mid game Ops. This will keep them playing with all guild members, give them an opportunity to teach, and reduce the probability of cliques being formed. This is how late-game feeds back into the beginning. Games that are team based will now be able to form teams headed up by leaders that the Game Commanders will select. The Game Commanders will also select which members will play on each team. [League of Legends-League 301 Experimental Flex teams will be created to develop new in-game tactics and strategies such as new builds, team comps, etc. The Supreme Commander will be responsible for creating the teams, selecting their leaders, and gauging their progress. Flex teams are the guild. To be eligible to be on a Flex team, one must have successfully completed League 101 and 201, and have attended all practices and Ops. During Flex Ops, Flex teams will play vs Flex teams. The purpose of this get teams playing together and initiate discussion about the games. This is work-shopping, not competitive. The Coup DE Gras for League 301 is Flex Ranked. This is competitive play via our Flex teams vs Random enemy teams. There will be a minimum of 5 Ranked games played each week, each game counting toward Op attendance. These games will not be posted on the website calendar. Notifications via Discord and the LoL client will be posted. If a member can’t play on an Op night, his/her team must defer to playing normal games. This includes both experimental and competitive Flex games.] After games, Game Commanders will discuss with the team leaders what they saw in the new player’s game play. Team environments will be created that promote and accentuate Pegasus Command values. In order to qualify for a team position, members must have completed both early-game and mid-game, and have attended all practices, Ops, etc. Schedules must be followed to a T. All attendance counts toward Ops. Members who have reached and completed late-game by the end of my term will be considered solid members of Pegasus Command, be active in the games they play, and be well prepared to apply for a leadership role in Pegasus Command. Members who complete late-game will receive public recognition and be awarded a prestigious medal of commendation. At the end of the day, we are creating team environments that accentuate Pegasus Command values.
The overall goal of this plan is to create a gaming environment that promotes team play, members helping members, and members sharing knowledge. Pegasus Command is a large community of diverse members, each bringing something unique to the table. We must all recognize this and utilize it to the best of our ability. Pegasus Command is about building a solid community where everyone cares about each other. Although each game we have is different, we are all here for the same reason: to have fun.
In order to view each guild game as being successful, I will be looking at several very important aspects.
1. Each game will have a chain of command filled with active members which I will be reviewing for compliance.
2. Discord chat channels will be active and have a minimum of 10 posts each day.
3. The use of Discord will be apparent at prime times and during Ops, will show at least 10-15% of each guild using voice.
4. Active recruiting: again, a must to keep a steady inflow of new members.
In order for each Game Commander to be viewed as successful, there are several things that must be understood by each of you.
1. You are a student of your game.
2. You are the game’s leader.
3. Have a mission for your game.
4. Continue to grow your community through recruiting and promotion.
5. Build a playbook for your game. Be creative.
6. Build a sub-leadership by preparing members to take over the role of Game Commander if/when needed.
7. Build momentum in your game by having your community push toward your mission.
8. Promote Promote Promote! Promote your game’s activities by posting them in multiple areas: on the website, in Discord, in your game’s client (if possible), and on Twitter.
Cross-promotion: Game Commanders are asked to take a few minutes before the start of their Ops to promote special events or activities that other games in Pegasus Command are running, such as Peg Com Movie night (what movie, date/time, and where to attend) and ESO’s Karaoke Night (date/time, where to attend). The purpose of this is to get Game Commanders working together to bring people together.
Regarding data reporting, I will not be requiring the use of countless spreadsheets to stay apprised to membership activity in our games. I will ask that each Game Commander send me a roster of current members at the beginning of each month (a picture of this information scribbled down on a piece of notebook paper will suffice). For Op attendances, I ask that Game Commanders send me the number of attendees at the end of each Op. I don’t need to know who attended, but how many attended. The who attended will be for your records where purging for lack of activity is concerned. This is a good gauge of how active each guild game is. I will also ask that each Game Commander send me a list of new recruits and/or losses of members each month. This will again help us gauge how strong each guild is and where extra attention, if needed, will be focused. Again, successful Game Commander-Supreme Commander relationships are founded on open, clear, and honest communication. My door will always be open to our command staff.
Proposed Budget for July 2020-January 2021: I am proposing a $400 budget allowed for giveaways and other guild related activities. We will work the individual amounts awarded into the Game Commanders plans over time.
Social Networking: During my term, I would like to see the creation and implementation of a “stream team”. This team’s main objective will be to go from game to game and live stream from each of those games to our Twitch page. The goal here is to have a stream of every game in Pegasus Command posted to the website at least once a week for the next 6 months. Private Twitch stream promotion will not be allowed. This is a community and will be viewed as such, we are not here to promote personal followings.
Upon reaching the end of my term, Pegasus Command will once again be a functioning, well-organized, and self-perpetuating community where every member is committed to our core principles and beliefs and are prepared to act on them. Our community will be vibrant, successful, and busy. With focused planning, intuitive, dedicated, and effective leadership we will achieve our goals. This plan provides Game Commanders with the “what”. It’s up to each of you to decide the “how”. Promote your communities, because at the end of the day, “We are nothing without our members”.
