Supreme Commander's State of the Guild Post JAN 2021
Supreme Commander’s State of the Guild Post-JAN
As required by rule 6-SC-4, this is the Office of the Supreme Commander’s official post on the state of the guild. This post covers the period between October 2020 to the present (January 2021). Areas covered in this post include the status of progression of the Supreme Commander’s Leadership Plan, updates on each game, concerns, and the future outlook of Pegasus Command as a whole.
As stated in my October State of the Guild post, the ultimate goal of the Supreme Commander’s Leadership Plan is to ensure that everything we do promotes value, fosters growth within our community, and strengthens each and every game within Pegasus Command for the long term. In order to achieve this goal, game plans were designed for the Game Commanders of each game, tailored to the specific needs of their games that would promote growth and more solidified gaming communities. Having reached the end of my term as Supreme Commander, the following is my assessment of the progress of those games.
ESO: This game has become one of the most stable games in Pegasus Command. The game was returned to normal order earlier this year, and since then, under the leadership of the Game Commander, has continued to grow in membership and in activity, both in game and in discord. Recruiting efforts during this quarter totaled 41 new recruits which is up from last quarter’s 37 new recruits. Op attendances are holding steady, though with the size of this game’s membership, (nearly 120 members) I would expect to see somewhat higher Op attendance numbers. My suggestion would be to strongly promote other Ops, such as the Overland Op. This is a great place for newer players to get their feet wet and learn from some of our more seasoned veteran players.
The Game Commander has had some difficulty in finding a suitable and dependable staff to assist with the different aspects of the game. This is not surprising as it takes the right person for each job. As stated in the October State of the Guild post, without a solid command staff that goes beyond the Game Commander, issues will inevitably arise as the load of responsibility for a membership of it’s magnitude will prove to be too much for one person to handle. However, I have no doubt that once a solid staff is in place under the direction of the Game Commander, ESO will continue to grow and be a strong, viable, and valuable part of Pegasus Command.
STO: Star Trek Online was placed under the direct command of the Office of the President for the purpose of restructuring and rebuilding. As of this date, the Game Commander’s plan for STO has been followed to a T, and as such the game itself has become stable. Recruiting efforts were successful, having a recruitment total of 17 new members in this quarter. Membership activity both in game and in Discord has increased, and a command staff has been established. The Office of the President is prepared to place the game under the direct command of a newly instated Game Commander. Once the game is under the direct command of the Game Commander, it is with high hopes that the command staff will continue moving the game forward. Continued efforts in active recruiting and membership engagement are keys to growing the community and keeping STO on it’s current track.
Star Conflict: Star Conflict is in a reasonably good place at this time. Scheduled Ops are fairly well attended, as are two of the four Sector Conquests available to play. Considering the size of the Peg Com Star Conflict Corporation though, I would expect to see a lot more activity from other members. Recruiting for this quarter netted 15 new members, which is good, but down from 26 during last quarter. Recruitment efforts are a continuous part of keeping the flow going in our games, so my recommendation is to place more importance on that aspect of the game. Goals that have not yet been met include: Conducting one or more Progression Ops and getting teams developed who will engage in more than just Sector Conquests. There are several game modes available to engage members, both new and veteran. We need to move on getting these game modes up and running. I feel that there are resistances by some of the membership in Star Conflict which is why this goal has not been realized. I do believe however, that with positive reinforcement by this game’s command staff, the membership will see how beneficial taking on a few different game modes will be to their overall gaming experience and the benefits it will bestow on the guild and Peg Com as a whole. On a more positive note, a training session has been implemented and has been fairly well attended thus far. With attention to recruiting and active member buy-in to what the Game Commander’s vision is of the game as a whole, Star Conflict will continue to be a stable and viable part of our gaming community.
7 Days to Die: 7 Days is a Server Guild Game, somewhat different from our other guild games. The difference mainly comes from a recruiting standpoint. The only way to recruit other than word of mouth or existing Peg Com members joining the game, is to post an updated announcement on Steam each week. Recruiting efforts for this quarter only yielded 2 new members which is down from 4 recruits coming in last quarter. It is my belief that once consistent announcements are posted on the Steam page, the recruitment numbers will steadily rise. More presence by the game commander will also see an improvement in guild activity. Presence in Discord chat and voice channels will let members know there’s someone there to play the game with. The Game Commander is getting a better handle on what he needs to do and as such, I believe 7 Days will, by following the game plan and the suggestions I’ve listed here, become a stronger and more viable part of our gaming community.
League of Legends: League of Legends was placed under the direct command of the Supreme Commander in July. This game has seen some bumps in the road during it’s restructuring and rebuilding phase. Member turnover has always been an issue as the filtering system previously put in place was not working. Since the last purge however, the guild has finally settled in and the membership in place is finally what we we’d been looking for all along. Community minded, friendly, non-toxic, all around great members. Though recruitment efforts were minimal, 12 new recruits last quarter, 1 this quarter, it is my belief that building upon what we have by recruiting for what we want will yield a larger membership in time. Op attendances are right where I expect them to be. Members are active in game and in Discord. I expect League of Legends to gain momentum in the coming months.
Final thoughts: The guiding purpose of the Supreme Commander Plan for July 2020 to January 2021 was to ensure that everything we did promoted value, fostered growth with our community, and strengthened each and every guild within Pegasus Command for the long term. I do believe we reached these goals. Although career progression was not as successful for some games, and we did lose SWTOR as an official guild game, the end result is a positive one. I had made a request in the October State of the Guild post that the game commanders design a job description document for their command staffers. These leadership roles and responsibilities were posted on the website as requested. Thank you for that.
We are an amazing community full of friendly outgoing members. Our community is vibrant, successful, and busy. Our anniversary and holiday events were a big hit with high participation by our membership. As long as we continue to act on our commitment to Peg Com’s core principals and beliefs and our efforts in focused planning, maintaining intuitive, dedicated, and effective leadership remain strong, Pegasus Command will continue to grow and become a self-perpetuating community.
